How to Fix Outlook’s Blank Email Bug

Outlook email issues can cause all sorts of problems, but perhaps none are as frustrating as the Blank Email Bug. This bug can lock out your entire Outlook email account, rendering it inaccessible to you and any others who have access to your account. Fortunately, there are some quick and easy steps you can take to fix this issue, so you can get back to using your email account again quickly and painlessly.

What Exactly is the Outlook Blank Email Bug?

The Outlook Blank Email Bug is a bug that affects your Outlook email clients and makes the Send button unusable. When this occurs, you will not be able to send any emails and all of your email becomes blank in the inbox with only text information such as subject or to. Fortunately, there are two different ways you can fix this bug. One way is by simply shutting down your Outlook application completely and then restarting it again. The other method is by signing out of your account from within Outlook and then signing back in again. Hopefully, these simple steps will allow you to send emails once more!

Steps to Fix the Problem

In Outlook 2007 and 2010, the infamous empty email bug is caused by a broken PST file which cannot be repaired without Outlook 2007 or 2010 and Microsoft Office Word. In order to resolve this bug and recover your emails, you will need to open your .pst file in notepad. Once in notepad, change the code type from a text document to Unicode. You will then need to copy the line of code 0x409 under Dictionary=WntlOffset: 167772160; on a new line so that it’s now one continuous block of text with no space in between.

Copy and paste your old emails into a new email and save it as a .pst. In order to import your saved emails, click File and then click Import. Select Personal Folder (.pst) and then browse for your saved file, hit OK and that should do it! Now you can use Microsoft Outlook without being harassed by that pesky blank email bug!

What Not To Do

Do not be tempted to hit Send when the mail is blank. This will create an extra copy of the blank email, which means it will generate an unneeded delivery report. So don’t do it. If you did accidentally do this, don’t worry; there are a few ways you can undo your mistake!

Alternative Solutions

There are two common solutions for fixing Outlook’s blank email bug. The first is downloading the latest version of Outlook. If you’re using Office 365, this may be automatically done without your intervention, but if you’re using an older version of Outlook it may not be. The second is by restarting your computer and Outlook.

An older version of Microsoft Outlook may be responsible for your blank email bug. If you’ve installed any patches or updates on your computer recently, there’s a chance that you could have introduced a conflict with an older version of Microsoft Outlook. The easiest way to check if you’re affected is by opening Windows Task Manager. If it has crashed and is no longer working, restarting your computer will fix it. Otherwise, try starting it yourself and checking whether any processes are stuck in memory (use Ctrl+Shift+Esc). You should be able to see what programs are running by using Task Manager>Resource Monitor. If there aren’t any problems with memory, then restarting Windows will solve your problem.

If you’re using an older version of Outlook, then you can fix your blank email bug by restarting your computer and updating to a newer version. This could take time, so be prepared for a wait before you can enjoy seeing your emails again. If neither of these solutions works, there may be a problem with your PC that needs specialized software or hardware repair. Your local computer shop should be able to help you get sorted out. You can also refer back to Microsoft for advice on updating or fixing bugs and errors in Microsoft Office or Windows 10.
