In Chhath Puja the ceremony wherein people offer arghya to praise Surya Bhagwan and Chhathi Maiya. Chhath is the most well-known contest of Bihar which is celebrated throughout India because of the Vedic time period. The Chhath competition is celebrated because it is a celebration of the principal fast in Shashthi Tithi. In this time, Vratdhari is able to keep a fast duration of just 36 hours. In this period, they do not even drink water.

The initial day of the Chhath festival is known as Nahay-Khay. This day the main home is cleaned and sacred. Then the Vratis visit their local stream or pond to soak in crystal clear water. This is the Third day of the Chhath competition, which is referred to as Sandhya Arghya. Throughout the day, everyone in the family unites to worship. Particularly, thekuaand the kachavaniya (rice laddus) are prepared to celebrate Chhath Puja. In the Chhath puja, a basket made of bamboo, referred to as Daura is put inside the pujari. It is filled with the fruits of the puja are is placed in Devakari.
After performing pooja at night, after having coconuts as a soup five varieties of fruit, and various tools of worship put these in Daura and then take the boys from the house by their fingers and bring their place on a journey to Chhath Ghat. In this event, special focus is given to purity. At this time the girls usually visit the ghat to perform traditional songs from Chhath Maiya.
Along the shores of the river on the banks of the river, the Chhath Mata Chaura is constructed and coconut is set on top, along together with the various devices of worship placed upon it and the lamp illuminated. At sunset and by taking the whole altar, vrati’s are able to stand in water as high as their knees and offer an arghya to drowning Surya Bhagawan.
